The objective of these programs is to get residents to leave grass clippings on the lawn when they mow as grass clippings provide a natural and healthy fertilizer for a growing lawn. The NJDEP, Bureau of Pesticide Operations and the Center for Turfgrass Science advocate this approach to lawn care. By cutting your lawn short and removing the clippings, you are robbing your lawn of its own natural fertilizer and creating a waste that must be hauled away for disposal or recycling by a truck. This, of course, adds to the negative environmental impact of this practice since disposal vehicles use fuel and produce air pollution. By cutting your lawn higher and leaving the clippings on the lawn, you can use less water, fertilizer and pesticides, and expose yourself to fewer toxic materials

PAPER STREAM RECYCLING
Jackson residents should continue to recycle by commingling their cans, bottles and plastics in the Township issued yellow recycling container. You may now place all of the following items together in a container that is separate from your regular commingled items:
Newspaper, cardboard, junk mail, magazines, inserts, mixed paper and empty brown paper bags.
Items that should be excluded are:
Cereal and pizza boxes, plastic bags, paper plates and trash.
Jackson Township now offers:
Residential single-stream recycling. This process allows residents to mix recyclable paper, plastic and glass in one bin. Residential single-stream programs have greatly increased the recycling rates, recovering as much as three times the amount of recyclable materials.
Single-stream recycling is made possible through the use of various mechanized screens and optical sorting technologies.
Although it is recommended but not mandatory to use 2 containers, 1 for all paper and cardboard and 1 for commingled bottles cans and plastic, therefore cutting down on unacceptable items being put in container such as household trash.
