Baby birds can be placed back in the nest.
Some baby birds or fledglings are out of the nest because their parents are teaching them to fly. Their parents are near by and still feeding them. They are best left alone.
If a nest is destroyed, you can put the baby birds in a small shallow wicker basket and tie it securely to a branch.
It must be wicker so that water can drain out. And should be shallow.
Raccoons and Skunks will sometimes come out during the day when raising young.
Young fawns found lying in a field are not always abandoned. If they are lying on their side or walking around crying out, it’s time to call your Animal Control Officer.
If you find a nest of baby rabbits and you are not sure if the mother is still around, cover nest with grass or leaves, then with some yarn or two sticks, make an X on the top of the nest. Check back the next morning. If the X disturbed, then the mother has been back to nurse her young, which they do as little as once a day.
We, at the Jackson Animal Control Office, believe that our wildlife is a beautiful and essential part of our environment. We realize that with the development going on, there will be more Wildlife/Human contact. We will assist you with injured, or sick wildlife, but we do not remove healthy wildlife from someone’s backyard. If you need any advise on how to co-exist with our wildlife please call us at.
