DIVISION OF UNIFORMED SERVICES
The Uniformed Services Division of the Jackson Township Police Department is comprised of both the Patrol and Traffic Safety Bureau’s and is led by Captain David Newman, an 18 year veteran of the department.
Currently staffed by sixty (60) uniformed officers, the Patrol Bureau is the largest operating unit within the department and it is these highly trained professionals that provide township residents, and visitors alike, with a full spectrum of police related services. Assisting Captain Newman with the management of the day to day operations of the Patrol Bureau are Police Lieutenants’ Edward Neill, Richard Wagner and Andrew Cheney, who serve as platoon (shift) commanders, and nine (9) supervising Police Sergeants. On an everyday basis, police officers detect crimes in progress, enforce traffic laws, provide first aid and respond to a wide variety of calls for service while protecting the lives and property of members of the community.
A noteworthy service provided by the police department is the patrol check. Township residents planning a vacation, or an extended absence from home, are encouraged to visit the police department at any time to request a check of their vacant residence.
The Traffic Safety Bureau is supervised by Sergeant Brian Geoghegan and is staffed by three (3) police officers and one (1) clerk. Through education, enforcement and engineering, the Traffic safety Bureau’s primary function is to promote safe driving habits and safe road conditions for residents, commuters, and visitors of the township. On a daily basis, members of the Traffic safety Bureau are tasked with the responsibilities of conducting traffic enforcement, conducting checks of road construction and reviewing plans for future construction and road improvement projects. Members of this specialized unit have received countless hours of intensive training to investigate the causation of serious or fatal motor vehicle crashes and in mitigating traffic related hazards. The Traffic Safety Bureau’s education initiatives include Child Safety Seat Inspections and Defensive Driving Instruction. Residents are asked to call 732-833-3017 to inquire about these valuable services.
