NOTICE: Landlord Registration Deadline Extended

Due to the recent snowstorm impacting Jackson Township and the resulting closure of Township offices, the deadline for landlord registration has been extended.

To ensure landlords have adequate time to comply with registration requirements, the new deadline is now close of business on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

General Information

The Code Enforcement Department is responsible for enforcing property maintenance ordinances which protect public health and safety of residential and non-residential structures.  Code Enforcement Officers are in the community on a daily basis ensuring all properties are maintained in accordance with the law.  Code Enforcement Officers can and do issue violation notices and summonses in the event that the requested remediation actions are not pursued by property owners.  When necessary, Code Enforcement Officers attend court hearings with property owners that fail to comply.  The Code Enforcement Officers work in collaboration with the Zoning Office and Construction Official.

Street Number Requirements

Every residence is required to have the street number displayed where it can be seen from both directions. The code requires a minimum 3-inch high by 1/2-inch wide and should be of light reflective material. If put on a mailbox it must be on both sides.

Rental Properties

The Township of Jackson requires owners to register all rental properties (Landlord Registration - $125) and make application for a Rental Certificate of Occupancy (CCO) - $100.  Inspections for Rental CCO are performed by the Code Enforcement Officers prior to tenant occupancy.

Vacant or Abandoned Properties

The Township of Jackson has adopted Ordinance No. 14-16 which requires the annual registration of all such properties.  The initial fee is $500.  First Renewal and all subsequent fees - $1,000.
